Who Is A Champion Of Change?
Champions of Change work over a period of years, if not decades, to create systemic change on a community, state, even a national level. They are often involved in reforming policy as it relates to sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and other forms of gender-based violence. A true Champion provides the leadership necessary to effect change, and mentorship for the next generation of reformers and leaders. Champions understand the only way to create real and lasting transformation is to work collaboratively with other professionals.
Champions also understand this work can be difficult and frustrating, and it requires sustained energy and interpersonal skill. The work can be particularly challenging because the efforts of Champions may not be valued within their community or state, and it may not be rewarded within their profession.
Despite these barriers, Champions work year-in and year-out, to transform our systems, so victims receive the compassionate support and competent services they deserve, and perpetrators are more likely to be held accountable.
How do we recognize our Game Changers?
Individuals selected to be Champions of Change may be featured on the Start by Believing website and in other EVAWI communications. If they agree, their information will also be made available to people across the country and around the world, who can contact them for valuable lessons learned.
Can I Nominate Myself?
Of course! Just provide the information required for a nomination and get a colleague to sign on as a secondary contact. We look forward to hearing from you!
